About

Hello. This is a place where I write about issues significant to music and life. I hope you find something relevant to your experience, whatever it may be.

And who am I, you might ask? My name is Jessica McFarland, and besides being a composer, I’m a musical arranger, jazz pianist, woodwind triple-r (flute/clarinet/tenor sax), occasional singer, used-to-be guitarist and sometimes songwriter. I also love baking, 19th-century English literature, and all things science fiction. I’m from America, I live in London, and I love to travel, though I don’t do much of it these days.

Long lists of credits are boring, so here’s what’s important: my favourite musical I’ve ever played is Children of Eden. My favourite gig was the Buddy Holly tribute in 2009 at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, and my favourite ensemble to write for was the Large and Loose big band at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
